"Transitions" Dance Day in the Rhineland

March 24, 2024 | Experiences, Review

On March 16, Barbara Utz hosted the “Transitions” dance event at the small, tent-like Protestant wooden church in Königswinter-Stieldorf.

The 21 participants from the region were treated to a wealth of dances that, above all, choreographically depicted the transitions from darkness—night—death—winter to awakening—light—resurrection—spring. Barbara illuminated and deepened the respective aspects of the dances by Friedel, Saskia, and Nanni through thoughtfully selected texts. This brought the theme of transitions to life and made it a sensory experience on many levels.
The center reflected her concept just as much as the prepared “Transition” poster. The dancers were able to write their thoughts, associations, and wishes into the spiral—a symbol of life as a constantly changing process (see photos). Barbara concluded the day with a ritual that revisited and brought together the most important dance ideas.
Everyone—whether new to dance or less experienced, or a seasoned, accomplished dancer—felt welcome and at home in the circle from the very first moment of the warm-up.

At the end, as everyone said their goodbyes, there was a heartfelt thank you from everyone for the wonderful work and the amazing dance experience. – Ulrike Meister-Lucht
